Quick start — using the tool
Go to the tool page, fill in the incident facts, and four drafts appear side by side. Copy the one you need. That is the entire workflow — no account, no signup, no configuration.
- Severity: Select from SEV1 (Critical) through SEV4 (Low).
- Affected component: Name the service or system, e.g. "API Gateway".
- What users experience: Describe what is actually happening from the user's perspective.
- When it started: UTC time the incident began.
- Current state: e.g. Investigating, Mitigating, Resolved.
- What is being done: Actions the team is taking.
- Suspected cause: Leave blank if unknown — the drafts will say "investigating".
- Next update: When you plan to communicate again.
- Internal component: Check this to hide the component name from public-facing drafts.
- Cause confirmed: Check this only when the root cause is verified — otherwise drafts will say "under investigation".
What the tool does not do
Common questions
Can I save my incident drafts?
Yes. After generating drafts, click Save incident below the draft panels to store the incident facts and all four drafts. Saved incidents appear in the Incident history list on the tool page, where you can reload or delete them at any time. Everything stays in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
How do I send the draft to customers?
Click the Copy button on the draft panel, then paste it into your email, status page editor, Slack thread, or any other channel. CommsCrisis generates text — a human reviews and sends every message.
Is the tool free?
Yes. The Free tier is the full product — unlimited drafts, no signup, no limits. There is no server to meter and no API usage to bill. See the Pricing page for details.
What happens to my incident data?
Nothing leaves your browser. The tool runs entirely client-side. No incident facts are transmitted, stored, or logged anywhere. See the Privacy Policy.
Can I use drafts from this tool in regulatory filings?
The generated text is operational communication only. It does not constitute legal advice, an admission of liability, or a binding commitment. Consult your legal team before including any draft in a regulatory filing, SLA notification, or contractual communication.
Do you offer SLA credits or refunds?
No. The tool is free and provided as-is. The drafts never promise SLA credits, refunds, or legal commitments. See the Terms of Service.

During a live incident your priority should be using the tool to generate communication drafts. Support emails are answered as soon as possible, but the tool is designed to be self-service — you do not need anyone's help to use it.
